White gold is not a separate type of metal but a gold alloy in which warm yellow gold is mixed with metals like palladium, silver, or nickel (excluded in modern alloys) to create a cool, silvery-white tone. The final shine is achieved through rhodium plating—a fine layer of the precious metal rhodium that enhances brightness and scratch resistance.
Our white gold chains made of 585 white gold are especially suitable for holding a diamond pendant, as the stone setting visually merges with the chain. The rhodium plating can be renewed after many years—a minor procedure that restores your chain to its original condition. We are happy to advise you on this.
What is 585 white gold?
585 white gold is 14-karat gold (58.5% pure gold) that is alloyed to be white and finely rhodium plated—nickel-free and skin-friendly. You can read more about the differences between precious metals in our guide 585 or 925.
